5 minute money meditation.

When I think about money, a whole bunch of stuff happens.

My brain goes a little wild remembering things from my past, concocting (not very fun) stories about the future and then all of a sudden a task that could probably take 30 minutes doesn’t get done or takes days because I’m so worked up emotionally.

I don’t know about you, but I want to make my money dreams come true.

And to do that, I need to have a positive relationship with money, and a positive relationship with the tasks that keep money well-managed.

But I’ll tell you- it’s hard for me when I’m feeling panicked. So, I developed a little tool for myself that I call the Five Minute Money Meditation to help me:

  • calm down when money-related tasks get me overwhelmed

  • stay committed to a positive relationship with money

  • build good habits around money management

  • re-write my money story

Here’s how it works.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed about money, I:

  • pause and realize it

  • write down all the thoughts I’m having in that moment that are causing me overwhelm

  • remind myself that doing something new will feel new for a while

  • remind myself that a feeling can’t stay forever- it will pass

  • take deep breaths to help the emotions pass through me

  • list all the ways that money LOVES me and is there for me when I need it

  • allow myself to feel the positive emotions between money and myself based on those thoughts

  • tackle my money task one moment at a time

  • repeat the process if necessary

Money is just energy. I know most of us have really weird relationships to money, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t make the money we want or have money in our lives. It just means that we need to re-program our thoughts around money.
